Historical Summary: ="Galena Gazette and Advertiser 22 February 1955 Shboom! North Main street assumed the aspect of war-blitzed London last Friday morning as the Gibson building suddenly tumbled into the street without notice. Just prior to 7:50 a.m. James Ortscheid, recent purchaser of the structure, left the building to get some tools. With Albert Ortscheid on the first floor and two other workmen in the basement, the 1837-built structure crashed a moment later, the front falling into the street, and the roof and walls toppling into the debris. Fortunately no one was hurt. Ortscheid reports that an investigation will be conducted and the structure rebuilt. The collapse was witnessed by Clyde Gray and Thelma Pierce. Old-timers about Galena remember that the building was used by three generations of Gibsons—first as a harness shop, later as a hardware store."
