Historical Summary: ="Galena Daily Gazette - August 18, 1888 Meusel’s New Buildings Brief references was made in these columns to the new buildings to be erected this season by Mr. John A. Meusel. Work on the buildings has already been commenced. George Beck & Son have the contract for the stone work and Thomas Nichols has the brick work. The buildings are to be three in number, and they will be completed and ready to occupy this fall. Each store will be twenty feet wide in the clear, sixty feet long and two stories high. The ceilings will be of good height, and the rooms will be lighted with fine plate glass windows. The front will be ornamented with a galvanized iron cornice. Mr. Meusel has had several applications to rent the buildings, but will make no contracts till they are completed. These new stores will make a handsome addition to upper Main street. This investment indicates that Mr. Meusel has confidence in the future of Galena." |
